Stephen Rubin lived in Westport for 60 years, where he and his wife Adrienne raised and educated their two children, Jason Rubin and Tory Rubin. Steve was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and an education philosopher and innovator.  At just 23 years of age, he earned a PhD from New York University.  After graduating from his doctoral program, Dr. Rubin became the principal of Center School in New Canaan, Connecticut and made an indelible mark on education, student success and the hearts and minds of multiple generations of kids, faculty and families. Dr. Rubin was appointed Assistant Superintendent of Schools in New Canaan until his first retirement in 2003.  In 1994, Dr. Rubin joined the administrative faculty at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield where he was Founder and Director of Educational Leadership and Management. He retired from Sacred Heart in in 2014.

In his memory, a honey locust tree has been planted at Compo Beach in September, 2025, donated by his wife Adrienne.
